How we developed a VR shooter in just 14 days

And unless you have spent some time in the gaming world, you understand that it is not easy to create something new under a deadline. Yet, when we made a decision to work on a project based on the development of Gun Fest, a sci-fi shooter VR game with a lot of action within only 14 days, we were prepared to take up the challenge. Here is a behind the scenes how we did it and nailed it.

What Is Gun Fest

Gun Fest is a fast, heart-pumping virtual reality sci-fi shooter game. The 3-4 minutes of exciting gameplay loop make players dive into the world of a fast-paced and futuristic adventure. It has such features as a leaderboard that can challenge players to get a better score and dynamic 3D graphics that are visually striking. The result? An ideal VR game to be used as an amusement park attraction, delving out bite-sized pieces of entertainment and leaving players wanting more.

The Foundations of VR Development

Adversity is enjoyed by our group, and transforming a VR game vision into a playable entertainment item within two weeks had its obstacles. And as far as you may not know much about VR game development, the simple things about it are the need to create immersive environments, satisfying mechanics, and fluid interactions to immerse the player fully. However, when you are writing software against a short deadline, productivity is the order of the day. Each process, (ideation to testing) is simplified to provide a refined enjoyable experience.

Our Key Challenges

Tight Deadline

Consider a two-week long immersive, playable game that you made. In the case of our group, it translated to intense concentration, effective teamwork and quick decision making. We could not afford long brainstorming and lost time.

Development-Friendly Setup

Even though the project was not open source, we made the choice of a framework that is development friendly. This was in case of future updates and modifications which could be easily incorporated. It scalable the project to accommodate more features, in case the client would want to expand its gameplay or features.

Stunning Graphics

Virtual reality lives on images. A mediocre graphics destroy the immersion. Our artists and designers literally worked around the clock to make the sci-fi world of the game sparkle with details so that the players would be able to forget the real world and immerse themselves into the world of the game, at least, for a couple of minutes.

Despite the time constraints, Gun Fest hit all its marks.
